Vamonos Outside partners with Mt Bachelor Ski Area to create a learn–to–ski/ride program specifically for Latinx/BIPOC teenagers in Central Oregon.
Winter and Mt Bachelor is a cornerstone of the local community and VO believes that Latinx/BIPOC youth in Central Oregon should have the opportunity to access snowsports. This program is geared toward those who have a strong interest in becoming long-term skiers or snowboarders.
The goal of this program is to introduce Latinx/BIPOC youth to skiing and snowboarding, establish a connection with the winter environment, and expose the potential for winter career opportunities at places like ski areas.
The Ski and Snowboard program is intended to be a multi-year program. This program will include lessons from professional instructors, a full season pass after lessons are completed, winter clothing, all ski or snowboard equipment necessary, transportation, food, and mentorship by members of the Latinx/BIPOC community.
Here is a broad breakdown of what each year of the program will focus on:
- Year 1: Learn ski/snowboard foundations + practice skills,
- Year 2: Build upon skills, explore the ski area, exposure to ski area jobs
- Year 3: Guidance on employment at Mt bachelor or other winter opportunities.
Registration opens in October and remains open until full. Waitlist available.
