What: Vamonos Outside is partnering with Cogwild to host a learn to mountain bike program specifically for Latinx/BIPOC teenagers from local high schools located in Bend. VO believes that Latinx/BIPOC youth in this community deserve the opportunity to thrive to be their best selves. We at Vamonos Outside want to get bipoc youth out on the trails. This program is geared towards those who already know how to ride a bike of any type and for those who have a strong interest in learning to mountain bike. 

The goal of this program is to introduce youth to mountain biking and establish a sense of place to the local trails surrounding Bend. This program will include lessons from trained mountain BIPOC bike coaches, free bike and helmet rentals, snacks and drinks, and transportation. This program will be a 6 week program biking once a week on Tuesdays after school. Here is a broad breakdown what each year of the program will focus on:

Goal 1: To Build Mountain biking skills

Goal 2: Explore the trails and outdoor spaces surrounding Bend

Cost: $10 

Timeline: 

Bike clinics dates:

• April 15th (No School) 11:00am – 3pm 

• April 19th 3:30pm to 6:30pm

• April 26th 3:30pm to 6:30pm

• May 3rd   3:30pm to 6:30pm

• May 10th 3:30pm to 6:30pm

• May 17th 3:30pm to 6:30pm

What’s included:

• Transportation from school to biking location and back to school

• Free Bike and Helmet Rentals.

• 6 mountain bike clinics

• Snacks and sport drinks

• Mentorship by BIPOC coaches and staff

What participants need:

• Backpack

• Workout Clothes

• Water Bottle

• Shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty or messy (old vans or converse work great)

Sample: After School Bike Clinics 

3:30pm Pick up from school

4:15pm: Arrive at Cogwild: Introduction to mountain biking, bike fit, basic body position and operation of controls at and around LOGE

4:45pm: Biking skills clinic

6:00pm: Leave Cogwild

6:30pm: drop off at School
