In early 2019, Zavier Borja founded a local chapter of Latino Outdoors. Having lived in Central Oregon most of his life without experiencing outdoor recreation, Zavi recognized barriers to access that many in the community also faced. This led to creating the Latino Outdoors chapter to help mitigate those barriers.
After gaining attention from local nonprofits and government agencies, it became clear a dedicated program was needed. In 2020, with support from Latine leaders and outdoor organizations, funding was secured to establish Vámonos Outside as a full-time effort, with Zavier leading the initiative. He currently serves on the Vamonos Outside Advisory Committee as the Strategic Partnership Thought Partner. He is the Destination Stewardship DIrector at Visit Bend.
